Today I went to the cinema to see The Great Escaper, a biographical drama starring Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson, based on the true story of Bernard Jordan, a British WWII veteran who, at 89, left his nursing home to attend the 70th anniversary D-Day commemorations in France. The film is moving, with humorous parts, following his journey to Normandy and featuring flashbacks to the war’s effects on him and his wife, played by Glenda. It’s especially poignant as it’s Michael’s last film and Glenda passed away shortly after filming. It’s a life-affirming, enjoyable watch.
