Prosthetic paws save the life of an amputee rescue dog who was to be euthanized
Every animal is beautiful and deserves to survive. Some creatures are unique and require special care. Their limitations, however, should not be the reasons for their euthanasia. However, many caring people work to ensure that every animal has a chance to live.
Like this dog, who had lost her paws due to mistreatment and was ready to be killed, but she was not only spared, but she also received a gift that allowed her to regain her footing. Monika, a dog, was discovered last December in the Russian hamlet of Plastunovskaya. The dog had been through a lot and, as a result, his paws were seriously injured and had to be amputated.
Marina Gapich and Alla Leonkina, rescue volunteers, welcomed the unfortunate dog, but were saddened when specialists advised them to put him down. They were, however, opposites, so they looked for another option. Marina said that they were her guardians and that the dog was under their care.
Sergei Gorshkov, a veterinarian specializing in prosthetics, was found. Rescuers have collected about 400,000 Russian rubles (about $5,400) to help Monika get new legs.
The veterinarian had never made prosthetic paws for a dog before, but he accepted the assignment. The legs were made of titanium and coated with biocoating at Tomsk Polytechnic University.
Monika, meanwhile, amazed everyone by quickly adapting to her new paws. According to Sergei, they had no hope at first, but on the third day she began to get up and walk around the entire institution, moving from room to room.
The veterinarian was glad that he saved the life of an animal. It’s amazing how miracles like these can happen when people don’t give up on animals. The dog was about to be shot, but thanks to the efforts of rescue volunteers and the veterinarian, his life was saved.
