The clearing in the woods from the opening credits of “The Andy Griffith Show” featuring Andy and Opie headed to the fishin’ hole, known on the show as “Myers Lake” near Mayberry – actually located alongside the Franklin Canyon Reservoir in Los Angeles. This reservoir just above Beverly Hills was also the home of “The Creature From The Black Lagoon” in 1954 and has appeared in dozens of other movies and TV shows, including “Star Trek.” The area was also featured on album covers for Simon & Garfunkel (“Sounds Of Silence”) and the Rolling Stones (“Big Hits – High Tide and Green Grass”).
